Their clear mission is the improvement of DeKalb County and City of Atlanta parks. One of the distinct advantages of that relationship is access to the volunteers of Fortune 500 companies like Turner Broadcasting. Wednesday, Oct. 2, Turner Broadcasting, Park Pride and Friends of Briarwood Park worked all day on several projects at Briarwood Park. Adam Lewis and John Ahern coordinated the efforts of Turner Broadcasting and Park Pride. Brent Walker, City of Brookhaven, provided access to the Recreation Center for restroom facilities and debris removal. Chad Boles, Terrell Carstens and Steve Walker represented Friends of Briarwood Park (welcome back TC). The main project was the completion of the stone container boxes in the corners of the community gardens, more plants inside the butterfly garden and continued work on the future Off Leash Area, BriarWOOF Park.

All of the construction materials were provided by Chamblee Lowes and a generous grant from Turner Broadcasting. Turner Broadcasting’s Volunteer Day began at Turner Field with a send off from Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Turner Broadcasting CEO,  Phil Kent. Project Teams then loaded buses to their respective sites. 23 people travelled to Briarwood Park.

The day wrapped up around 3 pm with the stone container boxes complete and another wide swath of privet, kudzu and ivy removed from future BriarWOOF Park. The stone container boxes will be filled with soil by the end of next week. Garden gates and trellis’ will be installed in the garden entrance by Thanksgiving. Please come by and walk the trails, swing on the swings, play tennis, watch butterflies and visit the Community Garden. City of Brookhaven Police are usually patrolling the area. Thank you for your dedication to Briarwood Park, Park Pride and Turner Broadcasting!! You are valuable and appreciated partners.
